The mission of the Humboldt Dog Park Initiative is to work with the City of Chicago and Parks Department to create a Dog Friendly Area in Humboldt Park. The organization will promote responsible dog ownership and community involvement. We want a safe place for our dogs to socialize without disturbing other patrons.
Humboldt Park is one of Chicago’s largest parks. Our desire is to bring a Dog Friendly Area to Humboldt Park to enhance the community and safety of the park. Creating a dog park is a grass roots project fully funded and mostly executed by the community.
We are a small group of dedicated dog owners that want to improve and advocate unity in our neighborhood.
In our application, we proposed a 15,000 square foot site located near the center of Humboldt Park, aiming to keep the location accessible to as many families as possible, while taking into account factors like using a space that is underutilized, sufficiently far from residential areas, provides adequate parking, and has an available water source.
In Feb 2018 we received approval from the Chicago Park District for our initial application! We are working now with the Park District on the final square footage and water source plan, but conceptually we are able to move forward to the next stages (gathering community support, fundraising, etc). Let us know what you think about the location in the comments!
